Everybody knows 3 is a magic number but when your patent comes in, that's a Lucky 7 in betting terms so put your money on this one to be the first big 'un of the New Year.

So this is not just you're average EP of 3 tracks as we have:-

1. Sumsuch and Kanedo featuring RubenS on with 'Seaside Memories'

2. Kanedo on his own with 'With You'

3. Lucky Sun and Kanedo with 'T's Groove'

You may spot a similarity with the cover to that of the compilation of last year, 'Deep House Lovers' on the same label (see review HERE) and these new tracks feel deep [no pun etc] in that cross the Balearics afro-beach goove.

If you need to catch up, Lucky Sun's 'Balance' was also out last year (see review HERE) that featured Alison David and the Kanedo & Sumsuch remix of 'Sunset' so who knows how good that'd all be if they ever got in the same studio all at the same time?

Artist: Kanedo, Sumsuch, Lucky Sun

I've got to say, the chorus of "LoA, LoA, LoA" does sound a bit 'Elvis in Hiwaii' but wait! This 'Land Of America' fights back with some edge that's right for these testing times.

Taking some Philly love from their 'Humanity' release from the passed couple of years, (see CAP071 & Remixed CAP077) with some angst from fellow Philly resident, Kameelah Waheed (who joined the duo on 'Don't Know Where I'm Going', see review HERE) it comes in original, clean, dub and Dave Leck Remix.

In fact, the remix doubles the bouncey synths with Will Brock's fantastic vocals and lyrics the shines a light on the land of the free's "subtle gaslighting America seems to inflict on its most vulnerable citizens" (track was written mid-2022), that's now happening in various elections all over the planet.

Next year expect a track 'Free Born Man' (could that be an "answer" track?) with a Vincenzo Remix; he of Be Adult Music (check their latest compilation for Xmas, ' Winter Tale', HERE) and the dub version sounds less 50th State and more Balearic with a strong beach percussion vibe and soft-rock twang (Dave is Australian).

I hope to have an "exclusive" with the lyrics to update you with as I feel this is going to be an important release for these two and deserves to be fully appreciated.

If you're thinking what's the equivalent of Belgium's Remco Evenepoel when it comes to Afro House record label's (Ed. and who hasn't), we know know it's Deep In Your Soul as they release this stunner from PA NGU featuring the incredible vocals of Lhue Ntuza.

The original mix of 'Ndiyahamba' is so good you might be tempted not to bother with the remixes, but dispell that thought immediately as Da Lee LS (from Lesotho) spins out a mostly instrumental post-JMJ version that keeps the tension rolling.

And there's more as Nruza's Xhosa vocals are as equal prominent on the other track 'Luthando' with a busy remix by Aytiwan (Bel) which is likely to appear in playlists like Blackcoffee and closer to home DJs Bob Hill, Andy Garvey and our own, Sumsuch..

PS. Don't be put off by the artwork; apparently it's a wily creature called a  Capybara (Kalanga)

"Deep jazz-funky house on the remix with super synth that seems like a sixth sense. So good you need to play all 3 versions back to back".

So it's a bit of a surprise to find the remix version by he Realm is an update on Funkky's sixth single, 'Sixth Sense' [Ed. how do they work this stuff out?] that was originally released last year with the vocals provided by South African, Nuzu Deep (aka Future Mokoena).

And then we know Funkky from the Eric Kupper Remix of 'Ngiyeke' (on the compilation, Soulful Deep & Dope 2023 ('Ibiza' review HERE) and as good as that is, this 'Sixth Sense' is even better as it taps into his and Nuzu's heritage and also harks back to jazz-funky/Incognito/Azymuth vibes; yes, it's that good.

Also featured on this months' Colour & Pitch Sessions mix by Sumsuch (see below), this remix version is a must have; especially if you can get it today on Bandcamp Friday; and don't forget, you need all 3 versions!

Fans of Be Adult Music will be happy that there's a new compilation coming out on the label; but let's hope they're grown up enough for a slightly deeper house than they are used to!

And 'getting  deeper' for these goes can stretch from a 'tribute' to 'Boogie Nights' (as reimagined as Latin disco-dub funk by Carlos Sanchez) to a Balearic beach zephyr. 'Feel The Breeze' (Moo Vee) to a bouncey remix of Sumsuch's 'Find Home' by Alex Kentucky & Ivan Garci as the day draws to a close (Sunset Mix) - fans of the Colour & Pitch head honcho will recall this is the one featuring Matty Eeles who's vocal is remincent of the jazzy end of Antony Hegarty; also check out 'Don't Go' and the latest on Colour & Pitch (Sen-Sei & Jason Merle's 'Traduire' - see review HERE).

You also get an organ express train awakening, 'Rude' (Matt Gilespie & Amir Groove) that will stay in everyones DJ bag forever, Mark Mac (different spelling) with a classic opener, 'Across The Globe'.

As a somewhat different tangent is Juan Domecq's 'Haunted Me' with it's synth ghost whispers and Aurel den Bossa & Ias Ferndale's, 'Calla Gracionetta' which has a Balearic 80s vocal vibe about it.

So, as you can tell, something for everyone and it's not just for lovers of deep house as it's always good to be a grown up.

STOP PRESS: Oh! What's that I hear, something from the other side of the office?  Sumsuch says, " 'Find Home' has really become a gift that keeps on giving. When I released the track in 2015 on my own Colour and Pitch label, it became something of a low-key hit around the beach bars and terraces on Ibiza and across the Balearics. Alex Kentucky in particular (one of the nicest DJs and humans you'll ever find) championed the tune, and asked if it would be OK to re-release it on his Be Adult imprint with a remix by Vincenzo, a favourite producer of mine. That rework became the stuff of legend, and I'm so happy to see Alex and Ivan provide yet another version of the song, perfectly timed for another lazy summer." Well, there won't be any fights in the playground with those thoughts.

House dub-jazz funk with French vocal vibes; yes, Colour & Pitch's new release is a crowd pleaser of the highest order.

Sen-Sei (originally outta Brooklyn) has joined forces with Jason 'Let Me Do It' Merle (San Francisco) to translate 'Traduire' in two versions, 'Original' (that's pretty dubby with French vocals) and a 'French Filter Mix' (that's even hyperdubby with French airport lounge vocals).

As you look out over the horizons (as per the cover photo), this will take you onto another level.

Expected to be on the Colour & Pitch Sessions monthly mix with Sumsuch - always an essential listen.

If you've recently danced to Terry Farley and Wade Teo's hit, 'Why We Dance' you'll recognise the name and the voice of Kameelah Waheed as the girl from New Jersey who is now on the new release from Colour & Pitch, Sumsuch and Will Brock's 'Don't Know Where I'm Going' that comes with Gavin Boyce remixes.

It's been a while since the Sumsuch / Will Brock release 'All Along' and even longer since their collab album project, Mega Jawns' 'Ten Letters From Home' (BBE) so it's great to have them back as they connect over the pond with this tale of being lost.  Original sessions started in May of last year so it's about time we can hear Brock's soulful vocals that are so perfect for this track.

Waheed is now based in Philly (as is Brock) and also recently appeared on Honey Dijon's Defected album ‘Black Girl Magic', so she's really in demand at the moment and taken to heart the spoken word part similar to born and raised Philadelphian poet. activist, artist, Ursula Rucker.

Ireland's Gavin Boyce (Nordic Trax) is on the buttons with a vocal mix and a dub. If you know his 'Anywhere Here' album, you'll expect some deep synth spacewalk from this guy; and that's what you get and putting the two tracks together, it's a magnificent 15 minutes!

Really think that BBE should have a look again at Mega Jawns (it's more than just a one way ticket to 'Joy') but in the meantime, I know where I'm going with Brock, Sumsuch, Waheed and Boyce, straight to the 'play again' button.

Is it Detroit?  Is It Berlin? No, it's Oxford! Well, it was a couple of Saturdays ago when Finest Wear and Colour & Sound had their launch party at Frevd for the new EP called. 'NIght Tales'.

This is Finest Wear's follow up to his EP of earlier this year, 'The Concrete Shuffle'.  You'll find 'Night Tales' is still urban deep house but not all of it is about the shadowy recessess of a railway arch club.

The 3 tracks are very different to Finest Wear's remix of 'Sky Be Blue' (also on Colour & Pitch - see reveiw HERE) but there's definitely a connection with a weaving synth glow.

At first, you might think 'Push Me' is main room with heavy beats and misty vocals but it's really bouncy and addictive. This is going to be the way to finish off 2022 in a big way.

Similarly, 'The Buzz Dub' has the deep house keys that you love but with this 'hornet trapped in a jam jar' buzz - is it annoying? Yes, do you forgive him? Yes you do as this turns heads on the dance floor and gets everyone going.

And sitting somewhere between these two tracks is 'Ket Corner' that's got that buzz (not the same buzz as 'The Buzz Dub') and gets more atmospheric with classic tech-house post Kraftwerk infulences.

This is the London based producers sixth EP on Colour & Pitch since early 2020 so you'd be expecting more soon, time for a retrospective/remix album? You'd have to 'Push Me' for that!

2013 was a bittersweet year for dance music lovers, scarred deeply by the tragic passing of Romanthony, as well as a true unsung hero of the scene by the name of Scott Hardkiss.

Not only was Scott an incredible producer in his own right, but back in 1997 he also created (in my opinion) the greatest Essential Mix of all time for Pete Tong's legendary Radio 1 show. The mix was a seminal moment for me as a teenager, acting as a beacon which drew me towards a lifelong love of the more spiritual side of dance music. You can listen to that mix and be transported (and transformed) right HERE.

Fast forward to 2014 and I'm delighted to hear that the remaining Hardkiss founders Gavin & Robbie have a new album in the pipeline. This is the second single from the forthcoming LP '1991', jammed full of retro flavours and fun(k).

"A slick slab of electro-boogie rhythms, the single features vocoded vox and a nasty bass that'll take listeners on an interstellar voyage from Cybotron to Planet Rock."

Remixers James Curd & Q-Burns Abstract Message are both on incredible form here, delivering tour de force versions, filled with inventive touches and positive energy.

Gavin Hardkiss himself completes the package under his Hawke moniker, creating one of the most unusual and original remixes I've heard in a very long time.

We return from a long break between posts with a label who have had rather a long break between releases. Denmark's Deepwit Recordings are a favourite of ours here at You and The Music, so we are extremely excited to see them releasing new music again.

We're happy to report that their upcoming release by Lithuanian newcomer Mesake is completely and utterly true to form. Full of sublime atmospheric touches, sweet chords and delicate vocals from Indre Ju, the original version sounds like sunset on another planet...

Of the remixes, the ever reliable tONKPROJECT's version stands out a mile for us, jammed full of musical invention and emotion as per usual.

In a post major world, labels are launched so often that there's probably a profitable business out there for anyone with the ability to think up arresting and attractive names for them. On the other hand you *could* always make your label stand out from the ever-growing crowd by releasing stunning and innovative music.

And luckily for us, that's what producer/DJ and now (once again) label owner Sumsuch has chosen to do.

"Simpatico" the debut release on his Colour and Pitch label (great name btw) is a frankly brilliant collaboration with Philadelphia vocalist Will Brock that moves the soul as well as it moves the feet - and trust me, this one is going to be a dancefloor filling stalwart in the days and months to come.... I've only heard the original mix so far, but tbh I'd be as happy as a pig on one of Brighton's rubbish strewn streets if it was the only mix that existed. Not least because it would lift me out of the mire and into the sunlight. Uplifting deep house? You'd better believe it. And you'd better buy it too...

Producer and musician Monsieur Minimal has been creating his unique brand of accessible indie dance for around five years now, but is still relatively unknown outside his native Greece.

Hopefully this is all about to change, with this fantastic selection of remixes of his emotive and haunting new single 'Candy Face'. The original version can be found on his 2012 LP titled 'Minimal To Maximal', which is also well worth a listen.

Containing a massive number of remixes (9 in total), there is truly something for everyone in this package, with many shades of electronica and house represented, as well as something called ‘chill-wave’ (I'm getting out of touch in my old age it seems)...

Highly recommended: the sublime, sunkissed version by E Major a.k.a. Elias Tzikas, as well as the more club-oriented, powerfully emotional rework by Dimi Phaze.

The package is out to buy now via Beatport and all major download stores.

For our first pick of 2013, we'd like to introduce you to the enigmatic (and delightfully insane) Mr Kim. Five time shaolin kung fu karaoke champion, Mr Kim himself is peddling his own brand of 'Double Happiness Disco', and we are loving it!

Kurt & Russell's original track simply cannot fail to bring a smile to your face. Expertly treading the invisible line between dance and pop music, this is an incredibly catchy record, but somehow it manages to stay on the right side of cheese. If Crazy P and Daft Punk smoked a couple of joints and had a jam session, it might sound a little something like this. Sublime!

On remix duty, James Curd from Greenskeepers links up with Sidwho? (who also happens to play bass for the wonderful Empire of The Sun), with predictably brilliant results. Quirky club music is the best way we can sum it up, it's a proper winter warmer...

Australian Harris Robotis serves up a much deeper, late night version full up of atmosphere which is also tickling all the right spots. Finally Space Coast close out the package with a floaty, stripped down take on the original.

The EP is released on 22nd Jan 2013, and until then you can get a sneak preview right here:

Harold Heath and our very own blogger in chief Sumsuch are proud to present their new project- Lifers. The first of many collaborations, this EP contains one original, plus solo remixes from each artist. To top it off, Avangardia boss Ricky Ryan has roped in top Indian producer Hamza (boss of Wind Horse Records), as well as Latin American stars Dee Keepers to add their own special magic...

Here's what the label have to say:

"AVANGARDIA all bright eyed and bushy tailed in 2012 introduce themagical world of Harold Heath & Sumsuch. Presenting - Lifers debut single 'Finders Keepers'., , Hazma opens the evenings proceedings with a lovely-lounge-locked driven groove with mountains of melody and Detroit 'Strings of Life' accents to illuminate you., , Harold Heath and Sumsuch 'Dub' it to the bone and re-jack the underbelly exposing the inner workings of the power station that drives Finders Keepers., , Sumsuch by his own admission roughs it up with robotic commands and bass-end acrobatic misbehaviour to leave you in no doubt who's the captain of this ship., , Dee Keepers make it clear from the very start that there is no hurry. The Melodic chords are stretched out as far as your eyes can see giving your ears plenty of time to ingest every last morsel., , Harold & Sumsuch's original version is stealthily and thoughtful. The momentum never allows you to leave the comfort of this well crafted Deep House exploration."

'Finders Keepers' will be available on all major download stores from June 2012.
